Why Me, God? Navigating Imposter Syndrome Through Faith

DAY 1 OF 3

Have you ever found yourself in a room with folks and thought: “What am I (of all people) doing here?” Or “Do I even deserve to be here?”

There are three types of imposter syndrome that we’re going to cover over the next few days. The first is financial, then relationship, and finally spiritual. If you haven’t heard of imposter syndrome it refers to a lack of faith in one’s skills, feeling like a phony or simply feeling undeserving.

As followers of Christ, imposter syndrome is something we need to be aware of because a) it can come off as not believing God or questioning His plan, b) it can make us appear ungrateful for our blessings or c) it can cause the type of insecurity and self-doubt that keeps you from sharing your testimony with others who need to hear it.

Let’s dive in.

One thing I’m learning to navigate on my wealth-building journey are the moments of imposter syndrome that come with entering spaces that were once closed off to me.

You’ll have moments of insecurity on your journey towards financial freedom.

You’ll wonder if you “deserve” the new car that you can (finally) afford…

You’ll wonder what someone “like you” is doing taking a family vacation to a faraway land. You know the one you’ve always dreamt of, but could never afford until now?

You’ll wonder why you were chosen to thrive when so many others are still struggling.

I’m here to encourage you and remind you that there are no mistakes, coincidences, or luck in the Kingdom of God. Everyone’s journey and timing are different.

It’s absolutely possible to celebrate your wins and still practice active compassion for those around us through tithing, volunteering, and donating to causes that matter.

The next time you wonder: why me? Remember: you are chosen and God’s time is divine.

Lord, when I find myself questioning the blessings you’ve bestowed upon me whether financial or otherwise, please remind me that there are no accidents or coincidences. Help me to stand confidently knowing that I too am working towards financial freedom because faith without works is dead. Give me a spirit of humility and the discipline I need to stay on the course You’ve set for me. In Your name I pray. Amen.
