Paul is given several warnings about why he should not go to Jerusalem. He disregards the warnings; Paul’s holy “must” was a stronger pull than the words of his friends.
Read: Acts 21:1-14 (NLT)
Explore the Theme: Paul’s friends had the best of intentions as they counseled Paul not to go to Jerusalem; they wanted him to stay safe. But, sometimes God’s plans are not the “safe” plans. How would you have responded if you were there and you knew Paul’s mission to Jerusalem would most likely end up with him in chains?
Ask God: It can be hard to discern what God is asking of us sometimes, especially when godly counsel may even disagree with us, as they do here with Paul. Where in your life do you need to discern God’s will in order to take the next step? Ask God to give you a heart and mind that is led by the Holy Spirit so you can discern what his will is for you. And then, ask him to make you brave enough to follow his calling, even when it is not what others would choose for you.
Live it Out: When Paul’s friends realize they cannot get him to change his mind, they say no more except, “‘The Lord’s will be done’” (21:14). Share with a few trusted friends this week that you would greatly appreciate their prayers to discern God’s will and that he would give you unity together as you seek his will.

About this Plan
(Part three of a four part journey through the Books of Acts.) Even in (and especially in?) hard times, God is present and is working to build His Church. We can find encouragement in this. When circumstances force us to pivot, we don’t have to lose heart - God is with us.
