A Tearful Farewell
Paul continues his goodbye with the leaders of the church in Ephesus, sending them off with some critical reminders of how they should lead the church.
Read: Acts 20:28-38 (NLT)
Explore the Theme: Paul leaves the leaders of the church in Ephesus with some strong reminders of how they ought to care for and lead the people there since they have been appointed by the Holy Spirit. Stand for a moment in the place of these leaders as they say goodbye to someone who has taught them about God. What might they have felt as he commissions them to their work?
Ask God: While he reminds the leaders of the church of the hardships he faced watching over the flock, he urges them to never stop caring for one another. Has there been someone in your life who has cared for you well, taught you, been available to you? Spend some time thanking God for that person and praying for them. Then ask God how the care they gave you reflects God’s care for you.
Live it Out: Paul shares that there were countless tears from him while “constantly caring” for his brothers and sisters in Ephesus. Think of who in your life might need some extra care and prayer. How might God be inviting you to be there for them currently? Spend extra time in prayer on how to be there for these individuals and ask God what that care might look like at this time.
