DAY 2 OF 21

The keywords in the book of John are “believe” which is used about 98 times and “life” which is used about 36 times (depending on the version you are reading).

Here are a few things I’d like to point out about Chapter 2:

  1. John details the first miracle of Jesus, which was to turn water into wine. In those days, marriage celebrations usually lasted at least a week. The word used to describe this event (gamos) was singular so most likely the newly married couple could only afford one night of celebrating.
  2. This first miracle may seem insignificant, but it proves that Jesus cares about the poor, approves of marriage, desires to be with the multitudes, wants his ministry to be one of joy, and communicates truths about a bride and groom, which He later uses to refer to the church and Christ.
  3. The temple courts were a place where women and Gentiles were allowed to go and worship. Selling was allowed as it was where the Jews purchased their sacrificial animals. Jesus knew their hearts and attitudes were wrong, which is why he drove the people out and overturned the tables. However, this was not done in a burst of rage as he carefully took the time to make a whip.

About this Plan

21 Days in the Book of John

John sets the foundation for understanding the Trinity and shows how Jesus is God. The purpose of John’s message was made abundantly clear when he wrote, “These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.” Join me as we read one chapter a day and learn about the deity of Jesus Christ!
