Fast Friends, Biblical Results Of Fasting And Prayer

DAY 8 OF 10

JESUS' 40-DAY FAST

Immediately after Jesus is baptized by John the Baptist and publicly revealed as God’s son in Matthew 3, scripture records that He was intentionally led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. Often in our lives of faith, big temptations hit after big victories. We are wise to be vigilant. Jesus used His time of facing temptation and preparing for ministry to fast, and we assume, to pray.

Jesus Himself tells us the exact goals of the enemy in John 10, he comes to steal, kill, and destroy. The same way he attempted to derail Jesus is the way he will attack us. He wants you to question and disbelieve God’s word, to test God’s power and faithfulness, and to doubt God’s timing and plan. If Jesus recognized that fasting helped Him resist the lies of the enemy, wouldn’t we be wise to do the same? When you fast, use that time as an opportunity to ask God to protect you from the lies of the enemy, and to seek His word so you know how to refute them with truth.

The enemy seeks to destroy you and everything and everyone you love. Will you let your resistance to him be built up through prayer and fasting this week?

About this Plan

Fast Friends, Biblical Results Of Fasting And Prayer

We all know that there is power in prayer. Prayer is defined in several ways: it is how we praise and worship our glorious Lord and Savior; it is our most powerful weapon; our open door to communication with the living God; the vehicle to confess our sin; how to find God's will for our lives and one of the ways we can hear the voice of our precious Savior. It is not very often that we hear about fasting with prayer, either from the pulpit or in our conversations as a church community. Yet, the Bible has so much to say on this subject and so many wonderful accounts of deliverance, forgiveness, and miracles that happened when God's people did fast and pray together. This ten-day reading plan will focus on some of the Biblical accounts and show us the undeniable power and movement of God when His people humble themselves through fasting and prayer.
