DAY 4 OF 7

“I Don’t Have The Answers” – We Are Messengers’ Darren Mulligan

A couple of years back, someone told me about a family member who had walked away from the Lord. I could see this had weighed heavily on my friend. They asked me what we should do to help bring him back to Jesus. My response was different than it normally would have been. We cried and I simply said, “I don’t have the answers.” There is something incredibly liberating in acknowledging that we don’t need to fix everything.

‘I don’t have the answers and maybe that’s okay”

Our view of the big picture is so limited. We need to trust God and allow Him to do what He does ever so perfectly, which is to redeem and restore all things unto Himself for His glory. It’s okay not to know what to do.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

We have not been rescued to be burdened. Christ’s yoke is easy and His burden is light. We make the mistake of carrying burdens that are simply not ours to carry and feel a weight of responsibility that we have not been called to shoulder. Jesus reminds us of this in Matthew 11:28, when He says, “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

However, we are called to love each other extraordinarily, as Christ has loved us. We have a responsibility to be with the hurting, the lost, the broken, and the least. We need to love fiercely and without ulterior motives. We need to love because we have first been loved by Christ. As believers, it’s okay to admit that we don’t have the answers, Jesus does. However, we do know what to do. Love, and love well.

When you can’t trust, I’ll trust for you
When you can’t move I’ll stay with you
You’re not alone, it’s all I can say
I don’t have the answers and maybe that’s okay
