Real Hope: A Call to Courage

DAY 1 OF 6

He Is Deeper Still

Throughout our lives we face many challenges, and it can be easy during these dark times to let fear control us and hold us back from fulfilling our purpose. But as Corrie Ten Boom, author of The Hiding Place, so eloquently said, ‘No matter how deep our darkness, He is deeper still.’

During the horrible times of World War II, this amazing Christian woman hid Jews in her home to protect them from the brutal Nazi regime. Despite the constant fear of detection and the severe and possibly deadly punishment that would follow, Corrie showed immense courage, never wavering in her determination to do what she believed she was called to do.

In her book, she speaks of the enormous fear that she and her family experienced. We see that her amazing example of courage was not about being fearless but, to the contrary, fear appears to take a central role in the outworking of the courage she displayed. As believers we are called to acknowledge, accept and face fear head-on, trusting in God to give us the courage we need in all circumstances. In other words, as John Wayne once said, ‘Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway.’

Developing courage is an essential part of being a Christian. During trials and challenges is often when God teaches most deeply. It also allows us to be a light in the world, to be a testimony of the power of God in our lives. When, with God’s help, we are courageous, we inspire others to be brave as well. Like Corrie Ten Boom, it allows us to live a life of purpose and impact, and to be a light in a world that is often so dark.

About this Plan

Real Hope: A Call to Courage

As Christians, we are called to courage. To face circumstances and situations that are uncertain, maybe painful and possibly surrounded by fear. But the amazing thing is, we do not do this alone, and we do not take the step of courage ill-equipped. We can step with confidence trusting that God has already triumphed. In this plan, we explore courage and the faithfulness of God.
