Year of the Bible: Part Twelve of TwelveНамуна
I Am Coming Soon
Christians seem to take two primary stances on the end of days and the revealing of Christ, as described in the Book of Revelation.
The first group believes their primary job is survival: enduring the difficulties they encounter and hanging on tight until Jesus comes for them. These Christians act like Prisoners of War.
In contrast, the second group puts their faith into action, getting to work carrying out Christ's mandate to establish His kingdom on earth. These Christians act like Kingdom Builders.
The Angel of the Lord says that Jesus is coming soon. This word soon means "suddenly." While it would be convenient to know exactly when Jesus will return, no one—not even Jesus—knows when that will be. What we do know is that He will come suddenly and without notice.
What, then, is the Father's will for us who await the Lord's coming? We must lean into God's grace, trust in His wisdom and strength, and be about the Father's business, establishing and cultivating His kingdom everywhere and with everyone we meet. Let us continually fan into flame our love for Jesus and those who do not yet know Him.
Indeed, it is not a sin to long for the Lord's coming. However, we must remember we're on an uncompleted mission: that all nations would know the Lord.
Question: What daily habits can you establish to remind yourself about the importance of being a person and family on the mission of Jesus?
Prayer: Jesus, forgive my divided and distracted heart. Sometimes, I find myself far away from Your priorities—locked in on things with virtually zero eternal importance. Teach my heart how to stay close to You. Teach me to relate to You, hear Your voice, and work with a heavenly urgency because You have placed me in the exact time and place You want me to be to establish Your ways and show others Your love. Protect my heart from being stingy and withholding Your kindness from those I meet. Help me be generous with Your love toward every person, regardless of their background or situation, and so model Your perfect love being perfected in me. In Jesus' name and for Your glory across the earth, Amen!
