Where Are You?
No matter where we may be stuck, we can have confidence God is still with us.
A well-known proverb says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take” (Proverbs 3:5-6, NLT). Instead of “seek His will,” another translation says, “acknowledge Him,” but the point I want to make is that when we pursue Him, He helps us. He directs us and leads us—not just to freedom but to Him.
A lot of acknowledging God is simply turning away from where you’ve been focused—on your own stuff—and looking up. Unfortunately, though, we’re the generation that constantly looks down at our phones, creating job security for chiropractors!
God has never gone anywhere, but we may not be focused on Him, and that’s when He can seem the most distant. I’m reminded that after the resurrection, Jesus appeared to two disciples walking to Emmaus. The Bible tells us that He walked with them and talked with them, but they were prevented from understanding it was Jesus until He revealed Himself when He broke bread with them. I believe that as we walk on the road of grief, pain, and brokenness that comes in bitter seasons, God is right there alongside us, but we may not see Him. This is confirmed in Joshua 1:5!
If we’re stuck, it isn’t God’s fault. It’s time to stop blaming Him and be honest enough to take a hard look at where we find ourselves and the decisions that got us there. However, while God is not responsible for your being stuck and feeling alone, He is ready and waiting for you to seek Him and acknowledge Him so that He can show you how He sees it. What may seem like “stuck” to you may be something else to Him. Let’s find out how God may be viewing where you are right now.
Another thing you need to understand is God is never stuck. Read that again—God is never stuck. He is with you, working with you and on you for your good. He is already going before you into your future to do things in you.
If you’re a follower of Christ Jesus, you’re not trying to be perfect. You’re not trying to be this holy person with a halo. You’re just trying to be the best version of yourself that you can be, with Jesus’s help and power within you to accomplish God’s plan for you on this planet.
In practical terms, this doesn’t mean you’ll never get stuck, be in a bad mood, or have anything bad happen to you. It does mean, however, that when you get stuck, you know to Whom to go. You have power thanks to Him, and you’re not subject to the god of this world. Instead, you are a new creation. The old has passed away, and you’ve been made new because Christ is within you.
You may be anointed to excel at business or parenting or teaching or athletics—anything can be part of God’s call on your life, and it is my passion to see you set free to accomplish whatever God has set before you. We learn more about these callings and works of ministry in Ephesians 4:11. Wherever you are, you can be supernatural in that setting, from working in a factory to crunching numbers in an office to wiping snotty noses at home.
Everything you do as unto the Lord will glorify Him and show forth His Power to other people who feel powerless, and sometimes insignificant. Your purpose is to show the Light of the World to a dark and hurting land where there is no hope. The hope isn’t you; you’re just a bearer of it, a dispenser. As you walk out a supernatural life right in front of others, they will see that light—Matthew 5:16 says it's our responsibility! It will be unmistakable because you’ll have peace in the chaos, joy in the hard times, and hope in the middle of darkness. The everyday walk of a person with the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit within them will shine brightly for all to see, and they’ll be drawn to you and hungry for that “something different” that makes you stand out as one who has spent time with Jesus.
