Water Baptism
Water baptism is being fully submerged, or immersed, into water as a public declaration to the world that you crucified your old, sinful nature and are now alive in Christ. Jesus and his disciples were all water baptized and then baptized new believers as they carried out their ministries.
Water baptism…
- Is our first act of obedience - “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit...” - Matthew 28:19 NKJV
- Shows the world that we have decided to follow Jesus - “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” - Galatians 3:26-27 NKJV
- Testifies that we are cleansed from our sins because of our salvation through Jesus - “And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord." - Acts 22:16 NKJV
- This means we can have total victory - “Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” - Romans 6:4 NKJV
“Bold obedience to what God calls us to, opens the door to God opportunities.”
Questions:
- Have you been water baptized? Was it your personal choice?
- What does being water baptized mean to you? Do you view it as a religious act that you should do, or with excitement to declare that you have been made alive in Christ?
