Confessions of God's People Stuck in the Middle

DAY 13 OF 14

Confessions of People-Pleaser - Rebekah

Lord God,

I am stuck in the middle, and I don’t know what to do. I feel like I have always been in the middle of something.

I was in the middle between this strange man who wanted me to water his camels and my family. They were incredibly skeptical when I told them he was taking me back to be a wife for his master, Isaac!

Then I was in the middle between Isaac and his mom and dad. After all, he was their only child, and they were very old already when I met them. Sometimes they didn’t always see eye to eye. Now I have my own two sons, Jacob and Esau. Twins! I was so excited when I found out I was pregnant with twins, but these two have been at each other’s throats since they were in my womb! Even at their birth, Jacob was holding onto Esau’s ankle. It was only the beginning of their rivalry.

Being the only woman in a household of men, I feel like I am stuck in the middle of all this masculinity! They can get so competitive with each other. I have tried to keep the peace and have an open conversation, but the guys prefer to argue rather than be understanding. I am naturally a peace-maker. I don’t like arguing or unresolved situations. I want everyone to be happy and to get along. I love both my sons and hate finding myself stuck in these situations.

I know sometimes it is my fault. I tend to want to stick my nose into the situation, but I am only trying to help! I only want peace in my home. I wanted my boys to be best friends, but they act like worst enemies. They aren’t even trying to find common ground. All they do is focus on their differences.

Please help me!

A People-Pleaser

My Sweet Rebekah,

I gave you your peacemaking heart, and it is one of the things I love about you. You have an amazing ability to see the good in people and allow you to see both sides of an argument. Your love for others reflects my heart and something beautiful about you.

Family life has not turned out exactly how you had planned. However, I will reconcile everything through me, and peace will be through me. I know some of this is beyond understanding. It seems like a hopeless situation. Allow my peace to guard your heart and mind.

As you remember comforting your children when they were little from hurts, allow me to comfort you, my daughter. Trust in me with all your heart, don’t rely on your control over the situation. I have a plan, and I love both your sons, and I promise to be their God. I am yours forever.

Your Heavenly Father
