Becoming a Respectful Wife
Do you respect your husband?
Many of us are bosses, leaders, and change agents in every arena. Yet, God still calls us to submit to our husbands and give them respect. God expects us to respect our husbands just like He expects our husbands to love us.
And our husbands need respect.
Note that I didn’t say they want it. They do, but God has wired them to need it. You may not believe me, but respect ranks higher on their list of needs than sex. Trust me, if you and I are disrespectful to our husbands, they are not going to stay just for the sake of sex.
We can respect our husbands by speaking well to them and about them, valuing their opinions and decisions, and honoring their wishes.
One of the most detrimental actions in marriage is disrespect. Tearing down our husbands with our words, undermining their decisions, or completely disregarding their feelings are all ways in which we sabotage our relationships.
We honor God by honoring our husbands, and we can expect God to enhance the love and health of our marriage when we do so.
Prayer:
Lord, I realize that my husband and I have different needs. While I crave expressions of love and safety, I know that my husband needs my respect. Forgive me, Lord, for the times that I have disrespected him with my words and actions. Forgive me for the times that I have made decisions without considering him and the times that I have dismissed his opinions and feelings altogether. I know that this separates us and dishonors You. Help me to respect him as the head of our home—as the man of God that You created him to be. Let me live out that respect in my tone, words, actions, and even body language.

About this Plan
Changes in our marriages will only happen in proportion to changes in us. Yes, our husbands need to grow, but we can’t control their growth. We only have authority over our own. This devotional is designed to help us yield our hearts, and ultimately our actions and responses, to the life-changing power of God’s Word. As we do that, we will see changes in our marriages and our lives.
