Uncommen: Rest BoldlyНамуна
All Who Labor Need Rest
If you've ever put in a full day's work, whether it's physical or mental, you know how vital rest can be for you. Our bodies and minds need to recharge at some point, or performance will suffer. Our verse is talking about our soul, and we need rest for that as well.
Life weighs on us in all kinds of ways, and it may actually sneak up on us when we least expect it. We may start to feel unmotivated, depressed, sad, or even experience anxiety in situations that we haven't before.
Whether it's work, family, money, health, current events, or something else, we have to find a way to rest. Jesus understands where we are by saying, "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." He knows we labor and will feel like the weight of the world is on our shoulders.
I run a creative agency. Over the 14 years, there have been three presidents, two recessions, a pandemic, and a family member stepped away from the business. There have been plenty of sleepless nights.
It can be so easy to take my eyes off Jesus. The storm is raging on, practically begging for me to focus on it. Sometimes I do. Thankfully, there's grace for that. Matthew 11:28-30 reminds us that when we are facing a storm, we can trust that Jesus is far better. He will provide rest. When we're panicking, we need to run to him.
Unfortunately, this concept takes a lot of convincing for many, including myself. I know I need to focus on Jesus. I know he provides rest. However, the moment the trial comes, my attention darts the other way.
We must be in constant prayer, especially when we're outside the trial. Before we're in a trial, invest in prayer, daily reading, and more. Pray today about a future trial. Pray you'll focus on Jesus. We need him desperately.
