Becoming Like HimНамуна
Identity
Everybody has an identity. Identity is who you are. Your identity isn’t based on what you do or don’t do. Who you are is based on what God says about you! It doesn’t matter what everyone else says about you. When God calls you something, that’s all that matters and He’s said some amazing things about you. Way before your parents even thought about you, God had a plan for you. Way before you were born, God gave you an identity.
Look around you! God created everything you can see. The person who creates something gets to decide what it is and what it’s supposed to be used for. God created you, so He gets to decide who you are. He says you’re valuable (Deuteronomy 7:6). He says you’re gifted (1 Corinthians 12:7). He says you’re successful (Psalm 90:17). He says you’re courageous (1 Samuel 17:36).
Sometimes life gets hard. Sometimes people are mean to us, our friends disappoint us, and our parents don’t understand us. Sometimes we don’t feel valuable, or successful or gifted. Sometimes we don’t do the right things or say the right things and it makes us feel like we failed. But that doesn’t change who we are! Way before you were born, God had a plan for you and He stamped you with what He thought about you. Nothing and no one can change what God says about you. God says He created you in His image and He called you good!
Pray: God, thank you for creating me in your image. Thank you for giving me a plan and a purpose before I was even born. Help me to see myself the way you see me. Help me to focus more on what you say about me than what other people say about me.
Do: Write down all the negative things you’ve said about yourself or that other people have said about you. Then write down some of the many things God has said about you. Practice calling yourself the things God called you. Keep saying the positive things God says about you until you believe them.
