Justice

DAY 4 OF 30

FAITH WITHOUT DEEDS

In the above passage the one thing that James cannot stand is profession without practice and words without deeds. He chooses an illustration of what he means. What use is sympathy without some attempt to turn that sympathy into practical effect? Faith without deeds is dead. William Barclay says, ”There is nothing more dangerous than the repeated experiencing of a fine emotion with no attempts to put it into action.” For James, faith begins with a word--the Word of God that gives us new life, as he said earlier (1:18). And if that Word from God gives people life, then those who live out that Word extend life to others. Faith is what is active in a person's life, actively giving life to you and to those around you. If it is not active, it is not faith.

Dear God,
Teach us to pray effectively for our brothers and sisters worldwide. Give us the heart and desire to intercede on their behalf and to help in whatever way possible. Keep our hearts tender to the needs of others as we walk out our love for You. - Amen

About this Plan

Justice

My inspiration for this 30 days Devotional is from prolonged theological discourses on Justice. My burning desire is to see that the Church becomes catalyst to stop violence against the poor. I am also grateful to Organizations who work relentlessly to secure Justice for the poor.
