The Battlefield of the Heart
God passionately desires the whole-hearted devotion of every one of His children. The Bible is clear that this is at the top of God’s agenda. Second Chronicles 16:9 says it simply and clearly:
For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.
Knowing that the human heart is God’s greatest desire, it is no wonder that Satan has made money such a vital weapon in his arsenal. He knows that if he can get you and me to treasure wealth more than Him, then He will not gain our whole heart and Satan wins.
That is why our giving is so important. When we as God’s people are driven to and committed to fund His work, not only does God get our heart, we advance HIs kingdom plan to win the hearts of men, women and children.
What you need to know is this:
Your whole-hearted devotion to God is the last thing Satan wants!
So you can understand why he so actively works you over to keep you from investing in the eternal. And why he works tirelessly to thwart the funding of God’s kingdom here on earth.
Satan not only wants to undermine God’s work by limiting the resources a church or para-church organization has to fund its work, he also wants to keep you and every other believer from giving his or her whole heart to God.
This is why giving is indeed a critical part of growing in our walk with Christ. When we give to God’s work, we do not just fund that work, we align our hearts with what God is doing in the world today and we increase the devotion of our heart to Him. That is what giving is really all about!
