Welcome the Wilderness

DAY 11 OF 14

In the Beginning

When we are standing in the middle of the wilderness, unable to find anything familiar, alone with God, we think something must have gone wrong to end up there. Did we take a wrong turn? Is God trying to teach us something because we didn’t learn it any of the other ways he tried to show us? I’m alone here because I didn’t listen to him, right?

Could it be, though, that the moments we stand in the wilderness, surrounded by the creation and alone with the Creator, we are the closest we have ever been to what it must have been like in the garden?

In the beginning, it was just God alone in the wilderness he had created, congregating with his creation: Adam and Eve. That was when God’s presence covered the wilderness, and man existed in Holy Communion with him.

Can you imagine the intimacy that must have been kept so sacred in the garden?

It’s in the wilderness that God creates that same intimacy with us; it’s not always to teach a lesson or to build character. No, sometimes, the wilderness is just the holy ground that God wants to use as a catalyst to walk with you as closely as he has created you to.
