The Worship Project Devotional Series

DAY 2 OF 6

Death Has No Power

When I was about three or four years old my family and I visited a World War II airplane museum. I was lagging behind the family, taking in every single detail. Each airplane was roped off, but I thought it would be an excellent idea to completely ignore the boundary ropes set in place. I took a shortcut running and ducking under each rope while I looked at each of the planes. I made it under a few ropes unscathed, but much to my horror, I misjudged one, and as I came up from under the rope I collided with a massive propeller, split my head open, and knocked myself out.

As I regained consciousness, I realized my whole family was huddled around me in prayer.

While it could have been deeply traumatic, I remember looking up and searching my dad’s face as he held me so tightly. His once white shirt now turned red, was completely soaked in blood from my head, but I felt safe, hidden in his arms without an ounce of anxiety. I trusted him as he literally carried me. Because he was completely at peace, I knew I was going to be okay. I had nothing to fear.

In our relationship with Jesus, we have access to victory we deeply underestimate. We give power to so many other issues in our lives and we have an overwhelming fear of hardship and pain because we so quickly forget the finished work of Christ. His resurrection and defeat over death is the very crux of Christianity. Without it, we only have an exceptional role model. But He is so much more. Jesus defeated death and the grave! Have we forgotten? Instead of believing the lies of the enemy that this victory still needs to be fought for, let’s stand in the wake of His victory and walk in the power of His truth—death, fear, depression, anxiety, insignificance, insecurity no longer have power over us.

Rest your weary heart in the arms of our eternal Father, who tore the veil so we could see the beauty and power of His love for us.

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matt. 11:28).

“Death has been swallowed up in victory. Where, death, is your victory? Where, death, is your sting?

…But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord’s work, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain” (1 Cor. 15: 54b + 57-58).

“This has now been made evident through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel” (2 Tim. 1:10).

About this Plan

The Worship Project Devotional Series

While social distancing, Jeremy and Adrienne Camp have discovered solace in worship. They’ve found that music continues to give peace and reassurance. This feeling prompted them to write songs that resulted in The Worship Project. Jeremy and Adrienne merged their gifts to create a body of work that’s primed for this season of waiting. Join the Camps as they explore these themes and share devotionals inspired by the songs.
