There's Hope For Today

DAY 51 OF 366

As a young man, he paid no attention to the seasons … too busy … too hurried. But with the passing years he found, like most older men, a greater interest in the weather and the seasons.

This morning he could smell that first breath of autumn, and it reminded him of Timothy. The boy always talked of the beauty of the autumn in Lystra, and as Paul looked out from his prison home, he longed to see him again. Demas was gone, the others were carrying out his bidding … only Luke remained. Paul knew what the others so fastidiously avoided: that his days were numbered … his season was passing. And so, he wrote: “Come before winter.”

Eastern religions teach that life just keeps coming around again, and therein lies a shadow of truth. There are second chances in life, yet there are certain seasons that come and go but once. Life should be lived with a joyful sobriety, celebrating the moment and seizing God-given opportunities.

Tomorrow holds no guarantee. Paul knew that if he ever were to see Timothy again, it had to be before winter. Are there autumn issues blowing about in your heart? What needs be done, do it well, and do it now.
