Open In Case Of Emergency

DAY 8 OF 14

Here comes the Son

When Matthew tells the story of Jesus walking on water he writes that the miracle happened “... in the fourth watch of the night.” This watch traditionally lasted from 3am to 6am - the darkest part of the night until the sun rose.

I became aware of the significance of this during a family vacation to the Florida shore where we had this spectacular view of the sunrise over the ocean from our apartment. My daughter would get up and watch the sunrise with me each morning, and as the sunlight appeared for the first time over the horizon she would announce; “here comes the sun!” When Jesus - the Light of the world - deliberately walked to the disciples on the sea just before dawn, I wonder if they said the same thing, “Here comes the Son!”

Maybe today you need to be reminded that when things are darkest, that's when the Light comes.
