DAY 36 OF 42

David Spares Saul a Second Time

Questions to consider:

  1. What does this passage teach you about God?
  2. What does this teach you about humanity and the world?
  3. David was presented the opportunity to take Saul’s life a second time. Rather than enacting his own will, David trusted God’s plans and purposes. Do you trust God to exact His justice, or do you try to force your own on people, problems, or situations? How could you take steps to trust God as David does?
  4. When David calls Saul after leaving, he could have gloated, but instead, he seeks reconciliation from the man that has hunted him for years. When somebody wrongs you, how do you respond? What would it take for you to respond like David?

Let’s Pray:

Father God, I confess sometimes I harbor anger and jealousy towards others that have wronged me. Help me to have a heart postured towards reconciliation and forgiveness instead.

About this Plan

1 Samuel

Picture this: a nation chosen by God; a prophet from an unlikely background to help show God’s ways to His people; a king whose fear and unfaithfulness bring disaster; and a man after God’s own heart who changed the nation of Israel forever. This is a story of God’s reign and rule, Israel’s choices and consequences, and two men’s different responses to God.
