[#life Series] Parenting Part 1

DAY 4 OF 9

Second Principle of Parenting

In the Bible, we can find the wisdom we need for our everyday lives. There are three Bible books written with the purpose of handing us millennial knowledge and cunning. One of these is the book of Proverbs, which was written by Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived prior to Christ. In chapter 3, verses 3-4, Solomon gives us the instruction to not let loyalty and faithfulness leave us. Some versions even go as far as to use the word ‘love’ instead of ‘faithfulness.’

Why would he mention these three linked together? Because that is how you build a team. We love watching our favorite baseball team play. Why? Because it looks like they are having fun together. They enjoy one another. There is some loyalty, faithfulness, and love in the team. There are a lot of other things about team building, but these are three important pillars.

You can see your family as a team and, not only that, but you can call it a team regularly as part of your everyday conversations. You could use your last name or any other name that identifies you as a family. Just fill in the blank: Team ______. You can even order some stationery with the name of your team and its members. Anything you can do to strengthen this truth at home will yield good fruit. We just want to put this thought in them: “You are a part of a team.” And the most important team is the home team. That is why it is so great when our team wins at home. We were in our stadium, our place. We knew we were going to do it. It was awesome to be able to do it.

Build a family team through love, loyalty, and faithfulness. Make the most important team the home team.

‘Faithfulness’ in Hebrew means firmness, reliability, dependability, and trustworthiness. Isn’t that a beautiful picture of what a father should be? Isn’t that a beautiful picture of what a mother should be? And isn’t that a beautiful picture of what you want your kids to be? If each of us is firm, reliable, dependable, and trustworthy we are not going to be blown by the wind of “everybody is doing it” or anything similar. That is a great description of a mom, a dad, and the kids. And that is what builds a strong team in God.

About this Plan

[#life Series] Parenting Part 1

Parents, our children don’t need perfection, they need our presence. God wants to use us uniquely in their lives through the ups, downs, joys, and struggles. Make your family a priority and your home a place where their hearts are built up. If we aim at the heart, apply the wisdom of team building, and respond to His calling, He will make much more than we ever expected.
