God must love flying
Even though we humans don’t have wings, God created lots of wonderful birds that fly. God also gave us clever creative minds that helped us come up with ideas of ways we could fly.
Parents love lifting their children in the air as if they are flying, laughing as they swoosh back and forth, held tight around their little bodies. Most little people and some fully grown ones have enjoyed swinging on a swing of some sort, trying to get higher and higher with each swing.
Feeling the wind rushing against your face and through your hair while hang-gliding or skydiving is totally for the birds and yet many people love to feel that sort of freedom of created flight.
There are lots of stories that include adventures about flying. Flying cars or ships that take people to special places or people with special powers of flight who win against the bad guys. This is all the stuff of dreams. Yet the Bible inspires us to believe that faith in God can help our spirits soar like an eagle.
I remember hearing a story about a baby eagle who grew up in a turkey pen. The eagle didn’t realise it was made to fly until another eagle flying overhead saw the young eagle and called out with an invitation to spread her wings and fly. The eagle at first didn’t believe the bird in the sky; however, after looking more closely at the wings she’d been given, she realised they were made for more than staying folded against her sides. The story tells of the young eagle watching and learning from the adult eagle the skills of flight. Along the way the young eagle had to overcome her fears, and the turkeys who said she could not fly. The story ended as she took her first glorious flight, soaring with freedom and with a whole new view of the world.
The message of this story is simple. You are an eagle when you have faith in God and when you listen to people who are older and wiser Christians whose faith inspires them to live with a bigger view of the world.
Finally, next time you wonder whether your dreams of flying are important, remember that God likes flying too and He wants your heart and spirit to soar in faith.
Prayer
Thank you, God that you created flying.
Thank you that you want my spirit to soar like an eagle.
Please help me today, God to have your view of the day.
Show me how to keep my heart and spirit inspired to bless others.
Amen
