Unforsaken

DAY 1 OF 7

 Day 1 You are Unforsaken

Why Joshua? Why take 7 days to focus on bits and pieces of wisdom from the book of Joshua for our lives? Why Joshua? Well, the truth is, whether you believe it or not, almost 8 years ago in my back yard, sitting on my prayer deck, I heard God say to me, “you are Joshua.”

I’m honest in saying, at that time I had not even read the entire book of Joshua.  I had only heard teachings from pastors and bible teachers about who Joshua was and how He was Moses’ spiritual son. I knew just enough to know that Moses wasn’t able to escort the Israelites into the Promised Land, Joshua had to do it. That’s really all I knew.

I didn’t have any idea what God was talking about, when He said, “You are Joshua.” I quickly blamed it on too much morning coffee and I went back to my prayer time. At the time that God had spoken this to me we had a wooden deck that attached to our above ground pool and it was connected to a lower concrete deck where my kids would play basketball. I was sitting on the upper deck, praying. I happened to look down at the lower deck and I spotted something on our grill that was sitting there. I thought to myself, “that looks like my husband Tommy’s bible. I got up and thanked God that it hadn’t rained that night as he had  left his bible outside. I walked down to grab it, and when I did the bible was opened up directly to the Book of Joshua.

This was one of those supernatural moments with God, when I could not deny the fact that God was trying to show me something about Joshua. I can honestly tell you, I have never read a book of the bible so quickly.

I grabbed that bible and I started reading and the next thing I knew God had given me the word Unforsaken, Then He confirmed it with a dragonfly. I absolutely love dragonflies and I remember saying, If I ever had a ministry, the dragonfly would be the logo. Today, that’s exactly what has come to pass. The dragonfly is the logo for our ministry Unforsaken Women Corporation.

It wasn’t too far into the book of Joshua when I realized why God said, “you are Joshua.” It’s not because I think I’m going to lead a huge amount of people into the Holy Land of Canaan or that I’m going to fight as a commander in any human army, or even because there was a Moses who I had learned from who I would replace. I realized that God said, “You are Joshua” because Joshua struggled with fear in the natural and God had to show him that He could be strong and courageous only by remembering that he was Unforsaken. That’s just what He has been showing me for the past 8 years writing this study, and it’s my prayer that this is what He will show you. You are Unforsaken!
