Day 3: Ask For Rain
“You heavens above, rain down my righteousness; let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let salvation spring up, let righteousness flourish with it; I, the Lord, have created it.” Isaiah 45:8 (NIV)
Have you ever prayed for rain? We tend to think of rain as a negative element. Rain is inconvenient. It cancels plans and causes delays. It sends us indoors, leaving us soggy and damp in its wake. Yes, there are times when rain is a nuisance. But as the saying goes, “Into every life, a little rain must fall…”
It’s true rain isn’t always pleasant, but lately, I’ve started regarding rain as a good thing. Rain is vital for the health of God’s creation. Rain nourishes the soil. Without rain, nothing can grow. The same is true of the Christian life. Without rain, we’ll never grow.
Sometimes rain comes in the form of a challenge or a disappointment, giving us the chance to see what we’re truly made of. However, sometimes rain comes in the form of favor. 1 Corinthians 2:9 says, “…No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” (NLT)
I believe that God desires to bless our homes, our families, our relationships and our careers. He wants to lavish us with the rain of His favor. That doesn’t mean we get everything we want, and it doesn’t mean God will bless us with lots of money, a corner office and a fancy car. It simply means God delights in giving His children good gifts.
Psalm 84:11 says, “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.”
My song, “Ask For Rain,” is a prayer of sorts asking God to send down His favor and honor as I expectantly sing, “We ask for rain, for your favor Lord. We ask for rain. Shower down from heaven, for our seasons to change.”
Are you waiting for your current season to change? Are you praying for God to move? Do you need a miracle? Friend, let me encourage you to ask for rain. Here’s a prayer you can use:
God, send Your rain. Shower down, overflow favor, Lord. Allow Your rain to help me grow. Thank you, Jesus. Amen.
