Disruptive Compassion

DAY 5 OF 5

Keep Going

If you’ve ever gone for a run or a hike, you probably know what it feels like to get tired and want to stop. To successfully complete the task, you have to set a pace and keep it — capitalizing on early momentum.

In life, there are times when it’s hard to keep going. And in those moments, momentum matters, too. Pace matters. Just take a look at 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 (MSG): “Keep your eyes open, hold tight to your convictions, give it all you’ve got, be resolute, and love without stopping.” Or consider Galatians 6:9 (ESV): “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”

There’s always something waiting for us on the other side of the obstacles — success in whatever form it takes. For example, there may be people waiting on the other side of your obedience that God wants to engage through you. The only question is whether you’ll keep going, be obedient, and get to the other side.

There’s an important distinction, though, between momentum and hype. Hype doesn’t last. Hype is cheap. It shows up quickly and leaves just as fast. Instead of seeking the high of hype, focus on small incremental changes and victories that can make a huge difference later.

To do this you’ll have to fight distractions — fight the temptation to sit back and relax after those early wins. But be satisfied with past victories. Don’t fall off course. As you pursue disruptive compassion in your own life, monitor and measure for the outcomes you want to see. Don’t be afraid of measuring results and figuring out what’s working and what isn’t. Pivot when you need to pivot. Just remember to measure success according to your God-given mission, rather than the opinions of others.

Remember Day 1 and the bucket list — the journey — and the model we have in Jesus. Follow where He leads you… and don’t give up.

About this Plan

Disruptive Compassion

Sometimes we see injustice in the world and think, “There’s nothing I can do about it.” But that’s where we’re wrong. Over 2,000 years ago, Jesus set forth a model for revolutionaries that is just as powerful to guide our journey today. This plan is your playbook for moving beyond helplessness and becoming the change you want to see in the world. Will you join the revolution?
