Disruptive Compassion

DAY 4 OF 5

Don’t Go It Alone

We’re stronger together than alone. It’s a simple concept, but easy to forget, especially when we feel like we’re walking through one of life’s “valley seasons.” But consider Hebrews 10:24-25 (NLT): “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.”

Being stronger together isn’t just about quantity — it’s about quality. You should constantly be evaluating your friend group while also considering the impact those people are having on your life. “You’ll never discover your mission by hanging out with people whose goal in life is to have a good time and find their bliss … Instead, you need friends who, at one time or another, will say, ‘Get off your rear and do something productive and meaningful for the world.’”

There’s something incredibly powerful about being unified with others by the same mission. When we’re united, we can help one another persevere through hard times. We can hold each other up; we can remind one another of the Good News when the outlook seems bleak.

So ask yourself today: Is there anyone I need to move from my inner circle to my outer circle or vice versa? What effect does my closest group of friends have on me — a positive one or a negative one? How can I be more intentional about cultivating healthy relationships?

Pursue community with the right people: those who are also following Jesus' model of disruptive compassion.

About this Plan

Disruptive Compassion

Sometimes we see injustice in the world and think, “There’s nothing I can do about it.” But that’s where we’re wrong. Over 2,000 years ago, Jesus set forth a model for revolutionaries that is just as powerful to guide our journey today. This plan is your playbook for moving beyond helplessness and becoming the change you want to see in the world. Will you join the revolution?
