Fix Your Eyes On JesusНамуна
WWJT?
Many years ago, I went to see a counselor for a sin I was struggling with. Some of his best advice was this—Focus on one thing, and you’ll quickly forget about the other. Our brains can multitask but only singularly focus. So, instead of just thinking of all the ways to fight this sin, just think about something else. Because if I’d think about this, I’d stop thinking about that.
Maybe Paul would give us the same counsel when it comes to our challenges, our fears, our guilt, our worst-case scenarios, and our sins. “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Colossians 3:1,2). Set your mind on the things above, on the God who is all-loving, all-knowing, all-powerful, always with us, and always for us. Figure out, through a study of God’s Word, if Jesus is nervous about this situation. Have a pow-wow with the crucified, risen, and ruling-at-the-right-hand-of-God Savior.
To put it simply, Paul wants us to ask, “WWJT?” What would Jesus think? What would the Son of God think about this, the same Son who loved you enough to hang on a cross, the same Son who is at God’s right hand ruling the universe for our good, the same Son who promised that he would be with you always? Keep peppering your problems with that same question—WWJT?
Focus on those answers—focus on your Savior—and your fears don’t stand a chance.
