Jesus Revealed Pt. 5 - Reflecting the Glory of GodНамуна
Witnesses of Jesus as the Son of God
Thoughts on the Passage
Jesus now talks about His witnesses – those that confirm that He is the Son of God.
First, God is His witness.
When Jesus was baptised by John, God spoke from heaven, “This is my Son in whom I am well pleased.”
Second, John the Baptist is a witness.
John declared, “I have seen and testify that this is the Son of God” (John 1:34). Jesus does not require man’s testimony, but He recognizes that John gave it.
Third, the works He does are a witness.
Jesus does the work that a Son of God would do – this is what we just looked over the last few days. In addition, we will see many more – Jesus heals, Jesus raises the dead, Jesus dies and rises from the dead, etc.
Fourth, the Word of God is a witness.
The Word of God promised a Messiah – and that this Messiah would come and do all the things that Jesus is doing. There were other things that people looked for Him to do – setting Israel free was the big one. This will come, it is not the first thing that the Messiah would do. However, He did the things God promised in the Old Testament.
With these four witnesses, Jesus gives more than enough witnesses to the fact that He is the Son of God. The least important to Jesus? The testimony of man! Jesus gave the greatest authority to God’s testimony, the works God honored, and the Word of God.
Still, for this world, we are still the greatest witness of Jesus as the Son of God.
Application
Are we satisfied when God’s Word tells us what to do? Are we confident to listen to His Spirit speaking to us or do we need people around us to confirm what God wants us to do? They are a great confirmation, but we need to learn to rely on the testimony of God speaking through His Spirit and the Word of God to know what to do each day. Take time each day to find out!
Time to Pray
Father, I need to see You as the greatest voice in my life. I need to see Your Word and Your Spirit as my greatest sources of truth. They are trustworthy beyond anything else I hear. However, to my world around me they struggle either with believing them or wanting a more tangible witness of Your truth – like me. They want to see the changes You promise in the life of Your children. So that means I need to live this truth clearly every day. I need to hear, I need to listen, and I need to put into practice Your love, Your compassion and Your grace and mercy. Help me today – so that my world sees me as a good witness of Jesus. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan
We have never seen our own face. We only see our reflection or a picture image of ourselves. The mirror is used to reflect our face back to us. If the mirror is clean, we get a clean image and can see if things need to be cleaned up. If the mirror is stained, the reflection is tainted. In Plan 5 we see how we are called to reflect God’s Glory. When people see me, do they see an accurate reflection of Jesus?
