DAY 4 OF 6

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

“Comparison is the thief of joy” ~Theodore Roosevelt

In this era of social media, self promotion and selfies, it has become nearly impossible to go a day without comparing ourself to others. Amazingly these platforms that were created to share our true selves with our friends and others has actually created a situation where people share the version of themselves that can gain the most likes and impress others. The pressure is higher than ever to look a certain way, live a certain way, and post a certain way to be accepted or deemed worthy. It is no coincidence that millions of people from teenagers to millennials are fighting with self esteem and self image issues. One of the reasons why is the need to compare ourselves to others which breeds competition and in some cases envy.

As a Christ follower, we should not allow ourselves to be caught up in what the world defines as beautiful, “cool”, or successful. If you know who you are and WHOSE you are, you would understand there is no need to compare yourself to anybody else.

Regardless of what social media or the world says, YOU are a child of the King of All Kings. That makes you royalty. You are made in the image of God. The Creator decided to create you just the way you are for a reason. If your life pleases Him, there is no one else that you should stress about impressing.

Check your motives. Make sure that your reason for getting fit or whatever goals you have are to be the best you that you can be to give God the glory and not to gain the most likes. If you ever have moments of self-doubt or you find yourself comparing yourself to others, take a step back and remember that God made you and He is the best at what He does. In other words, be confident in who you were made to be. In God’s eyes you are fearfully and wonderfully made. #NoFilter needed.

Challenge:

Take a 7-10 day break from all social media. Log out completely or delete the apps if you have to. Every time you go to check social media, open your YouVersion Bible App and read a passage or pray. When you return to social media, remember to be secure in who you are and not to compare to anyone else
