Active Faith

DAY 3 OF 6

The Lord is My Strength

As we embark on this new year, most of us have some resolutions or goals that we use this period of time to focus on. Every year, the 3 most popular resolutions are related to health and fitness. Losing weight, eating better, and exercising more are at the top of the resolution list EVERY year! But did you know, that 3 weeks into the year, 75% of people who made those resolutions fail and give up?

The reasons for this range from failing to plan, not having realistic goals, to not having an accountability partner keeping them on track. All of these reasons are related to people relying on their own will power and their own strength. One thing we know throughout the Bible and throughout life is we are weak and we are doomed to fail when we rely on our own strength.

The great thing about being a believer is we know that through Jesus Christ, we have access to a strength that we would not ordinarily possess. This doesn’t mean after we pray that Jesus will help us bench press 300 pounds. This means that wherever we are weak, we can take those areas to God and know that He will help us through it. When we try to lean on our own power, our weaknesses overcome us.

Our challenge for you starting today:

Whenever you feel yourself in a moment of weakness, stop and take 1 minute to pray to God and ask Him to give you the strength to overcome. If your goals are health and fitness related and you know you need to eat better, stop and pray and ask God for strength to resist the temptation of breaking down and eating an unhealthy meal or snack. Recognize your areas of weakness and for the rest of this month pray when you are in those moments. God has promised that He will give us strength that we do not possess ourselves.
