A Godly LifeНамуна
It hurts when I laugh
Have you ever noticed how joy and sorrow are never too far apart from each other? It’s as though they are twined around each other, bound up into our lives, and both are present in each experience. “Even in laughter the heart may ache, and joy may end in grief” (Proverbs 14:13).
“The wedding was beautiful, but if only the groom’s father were still alive.” “I got the promotion, but we have to move.” “That cute guy asked me out, but now his ex-girlfriend hates me.” It’s part of life in this broken world. All of nature is in bondage to decay, and we can’t escape it until Jesus returns.
Forewarned is forearmed. Since you can anticipate the streaks of sadness, you will not slip into fantasies that your world will soon be Utopia. Expect sorrow, but don’t let it spoil your joy. Look for joy; expect it; celebrate it. See your joys as proof that God still cares for you and is sending good things to ease your journey.
Lift up your eyes to your coming heavenly home where sorrow will be banished. Every sad tear will be wiped from your eyes.
