John The Baptist For YouНамуна
What's in your mirror?
When you look in the mirror, what do you see? It’s something physical, right? The color of your hair? The color of your eyes? Freckles on your cheek? Thick eyebrows? A mirror reflects us. All of our qualities, whether we like them or not.
The world will tell us how important our physical qualities are. It’s glamorized on every magazine cover and in every movie. While our physical qualities are a part of us, it is not what defines us.
John the Baptist was different, not because of his physical qualities, but because the way he let Jesus shine through him. He testified of Jesus while he would baptize believers. This was his message: “After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
He was quick to let everyone know that it wasn’t his own abilities, but it was Jesus working through him to accomplish the task that had to be done. Through everything he did, he always pointed to Jesus.
The color of your hair, size of your nose, or whether there are freckles on your face doesn’t matter. What matters is how you’re reflecting Jesus in the mirror. At your best, you are not shining. It’s Jesus shining through you. How can you show the mirror what a true reflection of Jesus looks like?
