Be Transformed

For years and years in my Christian journey I wandered around thinking thoughts like: “Why doesn’t God just make this go away,” or, “If they got healed, then why not me?” or, “What did I do to deserve this?” The more I struggled  the more I was frustrated with God because of His seeming unwillingness to take care of these issues for me. I felt unloved and abandoned just trying to survive on a treadmill of performance. To make a very long story shorter, lasting change never came into my life until I realized how God worked in bringing change to my life—through the renewing of my mind.

Renewing your mind according to God’s Word is the single most important thing you can do to thrive as an artist in the Kingdom, because every other issue that you’ll face, without exception, has roots in this issue. 

If you don’t know who you are in Christ, who God really is, what He’s said about Himself and about you, your life, your identity, your future, or the enemy, then, my friend, you will be tossed around like a feather in the ocean. Without learning how to renew your mind as empowered and led by the Holy Spirit you are in for an extremely frustrating and fruitless spiritual journey. 

The word transformed in Romans 12:2 implies that you’ve been with or had some sort of experience that caused an inner reality shift inside your heart. You see, real transformation always begins with an encounter with God. He changes you, and you respond to Him by affirming what He has done in you. You  mirror back to Him through your words and thoughts who He says you  are, what you can have, what you can do, and how He’s designed you. This repetitive act of recounting the deeds of the Lord and reminding yourself of this new reality are not just trite words spoken. They are literally creating a new reality inside of you. Over time, your heart and subconscious mind begin to trust more in this new reality instead of in the old experience-based reality you’ve always known.

As you meditate on these verses today, ask the Holy Spirit to begin to strengthen you as you take every thought captive and sow His Word in your heart. You will see your life transformed as you cooperate with the Holy Spirit to renew your mind.
