Letting Love In: How God Crushes Your Inner Critic Намуна
The Lie of Control
As I heard a message on idols, I was wondering what mine were. Was it sugar, was it coffee, I pleaded to the Lord for answers.
As I continued to pray for understanding, I kept hearing this phrase over and over again in my mind:
Trying to figure it out.
Trying to figure it out.
Trying to figure it out.
All of the sudden it hit me. My idol was my obsession with “trying to figure it out.”
Figure out what? I wondered.
“Everything, Lindsay,” God said. “You are trying to figure out everything, including your idols.”
He was right. And like a good father, He and I had a good giggle. I mean that is kind of funny.
I realized I wanted control because I still feared I couldn’t really trust God with all my heart or my life.
Often the opposite of control in our life is trust!
Whatever we try to control, we probably have trouble in that area with trust.
So ask yourself, what do you love to control. Then ask yourself, why? And invite Jesus in, and let Him show you ways for your heart to be even more free.
And remember, Holy Spirit is our Helper, our Counselor, He is on our side and wants us to win, so we can ask Him for help and trust that He will.
