Basketball is a beautiful game when played correctly. It flows, it’s unselfish and it can be extremely exciting. One of the amazing things about basketball, though, is how you NEED a team. You can be the best player on the planet, but you will not win unless you have teammates willing to help. You need people willing to do the dirty work. 

Believe it or not, one of the most humble basketball players in the world was Dennis Rodman. If you google a picture of the man, he looks a little crazy. His hair was dyed, and he was covered with piercings and tattoos. But on a basketball court, he was willing to do anything to help his team win. He thought of his teammates before he thought of himself. Jesus lived the same way. He thought of others before He thought of Himself. Jesus didn’t need to come to earth. He didn’t need to leave His throne and die for us. But He knew that’s what WE needed. He stepped out of Heaven and became one of His own creation, a carpenter, so that our sin could be paid for. The King of kings died a sinner’s death for us. Jesus calls us to be humble, to think of others before ourselves. People who live humbly may not get all of the accolades and attention, but they make a huge impact on the people around them. So, as you’re walking through today, look at the people around you. How can you help them and serve them? How can you point them to Jesus? How can you do the dirty work to help your team win?

Action Point:

Look for opportunities this week to help the people around you. Look for people that are alone, hurting or just need help and reach out to them. Be a light for Christ in their lives.
