Rise: Stepping Up To God's Call

DAY 4 OF 14

I Can't Hear You

Have you ever been in a phone conversation and there was so much noise you couldn’t hear or focus on the person you were speaking to? That can be really frustrating. Sometimes we have to make adjustments so we can hear.

Perhaps you turn up the volume on your phone. Maybe you need to turn down the distracting noises. It may even be a good idea to go to a quiet place so you can hear better. God is always speaking, but perhaps you need to make an adjustment so you can hear His voice.

Thought:

Samuel was a servant to whom God was speaking, but Samuel had never heard God’s voice before. In fact, Samuel thought he was hearing someone else’s voice. When Samuel tuned his ears to God’s voice, he heard God speak to him audibly. While hearing God speak audibly would be incredible, God can also speak in a variety of other ways.

Maybe your life is so full of noise that you can’t hear God. It is so easy for life to get loud with school, sports, family, a social life, a job, social media, video games and entertainment. God is always speaking to us, but we may need to turn the volume down so we can hear him speak.

Challenge:

  1. TURN DOWN THE NOISE! What are some noisy things you need to remove, or at least turn down the volume on, so you can better hear God?
  2. LISTEN! Take the 5x5x5 challenge. Spend 5 minutes reading your Bible, 5 minutes praying, and 5 minutes listening to God.
  3. PRAY! Take a second and pray right now, “God, please help me to turn down the volume in my life so I can better hear you. Speak God, for I am listening.”
