I don’t know about you but this Proverbs 31 woman sounds like the kind of friend that I’d like to have. Who wouldn’t want to have a friend like her? She is virtuous. She is loyal. She works hard. She’s honouring. She’s energetic and strong. She helps those in need. She’s creative. She’s dignified. She’s fearless. She’s wise. She’s kind. 

Consider: We can’t do life alone

When we give our lives to Jesus, we are born again into His family. We get to be a part of the greatest family on earth - the Church. 

We can’t do life alone. We were made to be in community. We all need people who will defend us, protect us and hold us accountable. We all need people that we can be real with, laugh with and cry with. We all need people who love us, believe in us and fight for the best for us. 

Context: Why bother?

We all know what we want. We’re hyper-aware of our needs. We’ve got prayer requests and lists in our heads about what we want and need from people. How often to we stop and do a 180 degree turn to ask ourselves what we can do for others? Putting others’ needs before our own. Do you want good, loyal friends? Start by becoming a good, loyal friend. Do you want relationships built on trust? Start by becoming trustworthy. Let’s think less about what we want and more about what we can be for others.

• In what areas of your life do you need to think of yourself less and of others more?
• Where do you need to put others’ needs before your own desires?
