Lord, Teach Me My Assignmentமாதிரி
Lord, Who Am I? | Knowing “My-SELF”
“And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ…then said they unto him, who art thou?” (John 1:20, 22)
When people saw a man clothed in camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, baptizing people, and preaching the Kingdom of God, they were sure he was the long-awaited Messiah — the King of Israel. John the Baptist responded, “No. I am not the Christ.” They then wondered, “Is he Elijah or Moses, who has come back again?” He answered again, “No.” One of the greatest keys to knowing who one is lies in knowing who one is NOT. John mastered this.
However, just because he was not the Christ, did not mean he was purposeless. After all, He was “a man sent from God…to bear witness of the Light” (John 1:7). He was the Chief Cheerleader, the opening Spokesman, The Forerunner for Jesus Christ the Son of God. John the Baptist was sent by God to prepare the hearts of men and women to receive Jesus as Savior of the entire world. Although John was not the prophet Elijah reincarnated, He would be a mouthpiece for God like Elijah. Although he was not Moses, he would preach a message of deliverance like Moses. Most of all, he was not Jesus, The Anointed One, but he was full of the Holy Ghost, sent to reveal Christ to a sinful world. Because of John’s commitment to his God-given task, Jesus said there was no one greater in God’s kingdom than John…and, likewise, when you fulfill the call of God on your life, there is simply no need for comparison. No one can compete with YOU at being who God made YOU.
Let us pray…
LORD, thank you for making me beautifully and wonderfully.
I am not You, nor will I ever be you.
I am no one else, nor will be anyone else.
I am your handiwork, created in Christ Jesus unto good works,
which you prepared before the world ever began.
I will remain faithful to who you made me to be.
Amen.
