Bible and Provision

Where He leads, He provides!

Peter, a businessman, says: "On three occasions, in response to a call, I quit my commercial job to work for a Christian missionary organization.

Each time, the decision was quite exciting. Can we live as a family on less income? What is it like to work in an organization that depends on donations? Three times, I was reluctant. After all, I was responsible for a wife and three children. Yet, looking back, I can say that we were not short of anything and can testify that God always provides what is needed.

It was exciting because God always worked 'just in time'. His provision came just when it was needed, not before!"

Abraham knew God as a God who provides! He even called God "Yahweh Jireh," which means "God provides". He did this after God had given him a seemingly impossible task. He was supposed to sacrifice his only son on Mount Moriah. In the end, God Himself provided a sacrifice by giving a ram as an offering. Yet Abraham was obedient to the last minute. He was ready to give up everything that God asked of him. He rested on God's promise: that he would be the father of a great nation, and that could not happen if his son died. He obeyed God because he knew God would somehow provide.

The promise of provision from our text today points directly to the provision of our spiritual needs through the sacrifice of Jesus on Mount Calvary. But in Christ, the promise of provision for all our spiritual and physical needs has been fulfilled (see Romans 8:32).

God will not commission us to do anything without providing what we need to accomplish the task. He pays for what He orders. However, that requires us to take steps in faith. Every assignment He gives us comes with financial consequences. Are you willing to trust the Lord for these economic consequences?

Commit to God that you are willing to trust Him even if this makes your finances uncertain.

"Where God leads, He provides; what God orders, He pays for; God's work, done in God's way, will never suffer from any lack."
