A Kid's Guide To: God's Nearness in ChangeMfano
A Shelter from Trouble
Our Lord and our God, you are my mighty rock, my fortress, my protector. You are the rock where I am safe. You are my shield, my powerful weapon, and my place of shelter.
2 Samuel 22:2–3 (CEV)
Where do you go when you are afraid? When you feel threatened by other kids or scary events or maybe even anger in your own home, what do you do? Hide? Run off to play with friends and hope it goes away?
The older you get, the more you realize there are a lot of scary things and only one person can protect you from all of it. Your parents or best friends can’t always be there for you, but God can. He is the fortress or safe place surrounding you at any time, no matter where you are.
A man named David wrote today’s Bible verse. God saved him from many things—including a lion, a giant, and enemies trying to kill him. He knew God was his safe place, and he kept thanking God in prayers and songs. David compared God to his rock, fortress, and shield when men were throwing arrows and spears at him. Phew! That must have been scary.
Can you think of any times God has already helped you? We probably will never know all that he has done. But if you are breathing and playing with friends and having good days, you can know God is protecting you. And when you know about it, you can thank him!
