Potential: The Power of God Within YouSmakprov
Get Your Confidence Back
To doubt is human; to walk confidently despite the doubt is divine.
A “doubting Christian”...no, it’s not an oxymoron! Any Christ follower will tell you they have experienced times of doubt where it looked as though they had made a wrong turn and hit a brick wall. So how can we believe and at the same time have doubt? Well, we can look at the example of the Israelites fleeing Egypt in Exodus 14.
After victoriously walking out of Egypt, the Israelites found themselves literally between a rock and a hard place. The enemy was approaching behind them, the Red Sea was in front of them, and there was nowhere to go. Escape seemed impossible. Immediately, the Israelites responded in doubt. They quickly forgot the promises God had made. They looked at their obstacles and decided this must be a mistake; this couldn’t be God’s plan! But God was not surprised by the events unfolding. He already had an escape plan. His plan didn’t require any skill or special tool that the people possessed. They just had to get moving! Moses obediently stretched out his staff, the waters parted, and history was made!
I know from personal experience that following God requires a great deal of confidence. I not only need confidence in my own abilities (that he has blessed me with) but also in Him and His plan for my life. During challenging seasons of leadership, I have asked the question, “If this is God’s will, then why is it so hard?” I am sure you have asked the same. But, I have learned to have courage despite the fear and to move forward in the face of doubt. Confidence is the ability to be obedient in small steps and trust God with the big picture. You may feel like you are in an impossible situation, but you just may be right in the center of God’s will for your life. Take some time to read today’s scriptures and reflect on times God has made a way for you like he did for the Israelites. Journal it. When your belief is challenged with doubt, look back at today’s journal entry and be reminded that God is good and will never fail you.
