Quick Encouragement for Medical ProfessionalsSmakprov
I want to write this with honesty. I struggle with this verse when it comes to working in medicine.
I would bet if we were sitting together over coffee and you've been working in medicine the last two years, you'd tell me you have struggled with this too.
Grumbling and complaining seem to be the way we commiserate with our coworkers, how we get through our long days. But here it is in plain words:
Do ALL things without grumbling.
All things: working in medicine.
This doesn't mean we can't acknowledge when things are wrong or hard, but it does mean examining your words and attitude as well as the heart behind them.
It means asking hard questions like :
Are you telling someone who can do something about it?
or
Are you just constantly venting and complaining?
The grumbling never changes anything. It usually has the opposite effect, making us feel worse and more grumpy when we are done.
It leads to just more grumbling.
What can we trade for grumbling?
PRAYER
We can take our thoughts, complaints, worries, and concerns to the Lord, the only one who can ultimately change things.
So my constant reminder to myself (this verse is posted on my desk) is to exchange my grumbling for prayer.
Join me?
Lord, You see the work we are doing, You see the things that are wrong with the system, and You see the exhaustion. We come to You for refreshing. We come to You with what is heavy to leave with the lightness of Your peace. Forgive our grumbling. Give us the ability to rise above it and come to You with our complaints. Amen.
