Jesus: The Ultimate Reflection of Humility
When discussing good leadership, we must always look to Jesus. Each week, we have looked to Him for the ultimate example of how to live and lead. He demonstrates that leading well is serving well. He also illustrates the ultimate example of humility and sacrifice. Paul reminds us in Philippians 2:5-8 that Jesus exists in the form of God, yet He came to us in the form of man. He lowered Himself to our level so that He could serve us. Then He sacrificed Himself to death on the cross for our sake.
Let’s take that a step further. Jesus didn’t only come to earth as a man. He came to earth as a baby, born in a manger. Shouldn’t He have been born in a palace on silk sheets as a king? Not Jesus. He picked the lowest place to be born and came to earth at the lowest stage of life.
Perhaps if Jesus can humble Himself in this way, we can at least attempt to humble ourselves by putting our faith in God. Having a humble spirit means admitting we cannot do it alone and that we are not the most important person on the planet. When we live with humility, we put our trust in God. We look to Him and our community for help. We give honor where honor is due. We lay our issues down so that we may put others first!
