Week 2 | Hearing God
Day Three
Spend some time in prayer before you begin. Thank God for hearing your prayers and ask Him to speak to you through His word today.
- Read 1 Samuel 3 again but this time try reading it in a different version than you did before, look up the definitions of words you don’t know, summarize what the passage is saying in your own words.
- Do some research, who wrote the book of 1 Samuel? When was it written? To whom was it written? What genre of writing is it (Historical narrative, poetry, wisdom literature, law, prophesy, parables, epistles)? Why is all of this important?
- Do you think this passage teaches us about God’s creation, man’s sin, God’s redemption of man, or God’s restoration of man to Himself? It can be more than one. Why is it important to think about this?
- How does knowing God audibly called out to Samuel and spoke to Him change how you view Him? Do you think God can do the same for you? Why or why not?
- How does hearing Samuel’s response “speak Lord, your servant is listening” change how you listen to God?
- Spend some time in prayer as you close, start by saying “speak Lord, your servant is listening” and then spend time just trying to listen to what God wants to say to you.
