WEEK 1, DAY 3—JESUS THE SON

Jesus is the Son of God, and he’s part of what we call the “Trinity.” When we refer to the Trinity, we are referring to the three persons of God. We’ve got God the Father, who we learned about yesterday. Then there’s Jesus the Son, and there’s also the Holy Spirit. Father, Son, Spirit. This concept of one God being three persons can be difficult to wrap your head around, but that’s okay! It might help you to think of the Trinity like the different forms of water. Water, steam, and ice all carry the same chemical formula of H2O, but they’re all in different forms. God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are all equally God and equally powerful—they are just different in their expressions.

Jesus is the Son of God, and he made a way for us to have a relationship with God! Jesus was fully human and fully God. He lived a perfect life and was God right here on earth. He healed people, raised people from the dead, loved people, cared for people, and preached the greatest sermons ever! And then, he went to a cross and died. In doing so, he took the punishment for our sins. He took our place! Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, we no longer have to die as punishment for our sins. And then, the best part—three days later, he resurrected from the dead and rose again! Because of this, we now know that Jesus has defeated death and sin and that whoever believes in Jesus will have eternal life.

Jesus is also our model for life! Because he’s the only perfect, sinless human who has ever lived, he is our reference point. As Christians, our goal is to become more like Jesus!
