WEEK 1, DAY 7—THE NAMES OF GOD

The Bible talks about God in many different ways and uses lots of different names to describe God. These names help us to understand the different characteristics of God and who he is in our lives. Here are some of the words used to describe God—in the original language of the Bible, and what these words mean in English:

• EL EMUNAH — The faithful God
• ELOHE CHASEDDI — God of Mercy
• JEHOVAH JIREH — The Lord will provide
• JEHOVAH RAPHA — The Lord that heals
• JEHOVAH SHALOM — The Lord is peace
• ALPHA AND OMEGA — The beginning and the end

Each name of God helps us to understand him and know him more deeply. By learning who God says is and his characteristics, we can call on him and pray to him in the different circumstances and challenges we go through in our lives. For example, when you need healing and you know that God is JEHOVAH RAPHA (The God who heals), you can call out to God and declare his name over your sickness or pain.

As you read these verses, pray that God would show himself to be these things in your life!
