P.I.E.C.E.S: 6 Steps to Healing & Building Confidence After Relationship Heartbreak a 7-Day Plan by Alicia Renee’ RobertsUzorak
I- Initiate Healing
“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” (Proverbs 17:22 NIV)
No one wants to feel down and broken, and I know that it’s difficult to smile and carry on with everyday tasks when you feel like your heart is breaking into a million pieces. God’s intention for us is to be hopeful and not hopeless, strong and not weary, joyful and not sorrowful.
Understand that God can relieve us from all hurt and trouble in life because He is sovereign and merciful; however, He wants us to use His word and instruction to make the best choices. He gives us the autonomy to make decisions for our lives.
Consider the following steps to initiate healing from your relationship hurt:
- Acknowledge that you may not be okay and seek help: True healing begins when we let go of our inhibitions and open our hearts and minds to help because we genuinely want to be better. God places people in our lives and professionals on this earth to support us. Don’t let the enemy keep you isolated.
- Release yourself from any guilt, shame, or could haves: When you are grieving, you will likely think of what you could’ve done differently. Don’t overload your brain with all the possible scenarios. Unfortunately, what is done is done. If guilt and shame are present, maybe there is something that you need to ask God to forgive you for. Don’t forget to forgive yourself! You may even have feelings of embarrassment. Others’ perceptions of you are not your reality.
- Assess your authentic self: Take time to assess who you are, what makes you happy and your beliefs. Doing this helps you recognize who you’ve become and enables you to compare whether you’ve lived in your truth. It also allows you to better understand your behaviors and why you act or react the way you do.
- Cast your cares upon Christ and have faith: Christ cares for us and wants the best for us. He will lift our burdens when we submit ourselves and our situations to Him. Pray sincerely for healing, restoration, and resolution of your troubles. Make your requests known, and He will hear you. You may not receive answers immediately but be patient and continue believing.
Reflection:
In what areas have you not initiated healing from the brokenness in your life? Create a healing action plan and begin to set it in motion.
