Reset My Identity

Let’s face it: We all have identity issues. We put way too much stock in what we look like, who we hang out with, and how many social media followers we have.

You might not believe it, but Jesus faced the same thing in His day. He did miracles in cities in Israel, and they rejected Him because Jesus wasn’t cool enough for them. The Israelites saw Samaritans as outsiders, so Jesus told a story where the Samaritan was the hero.

He’s making a point—your worth is meant to be found in Jesus.

His followers came back from performing miracles, shouting, “Jesus! This is so cool!” Jesus says to them, “Miracles are cool, but you know what’s even better? Your names are written in heaven.”

At the end of our lives, what’s really going to matter? Is it going to matter if we got first place? Is it going to matter if we got that scholarship? Jesus isn’t saying, “Don’t try,” but He’s telling us that finding our worth in those things isn’t going to satisfy. We were made to find our identity in Him.
