Reading the Bible in Historical Sequence Part 4

DITA 28 NGA 30

During his separation, Absalom becomes bitter, plans rebellion and in 1023 BC grabs the throne. David (62) flees crying for God’s help.

Note 2 Samuel 15: The 40 years in v.7 may be a copyist’s error; Josephus gives four years. This seems to fit the context – four years from Absalom’s return to Jerusalem. Ahithophel’s desertion (2 Samuel 15:12) was hard to bear; he had been a spiritual adviser and friend to David (Psalm 41:9; 55:12–14). Ahithophel, it seems, was the paternal grandfather of Bathsheba, David’s wife (2 Samuel 11:3; 23:34). David’s matrimonial conquests have become arrows (Psalm 38:2).
